Claremont road brise soleil, Bishopston, Bristol.

A beautiful Brise Soleil constructed all in timber for a garden in Bristol to protect the south elevation from over-heating due to solar gain on the windows of the house. Similar to a pergola, or garden structure for growing climbing plants on this both doubles as an architectural feature for deflecting the suns rays and keeping the house cooler as well as a really interesting space bringing the indoors outdoors. Something to have BBQ's underneath, hang a swinging bench from, perhaps some gymnastic rings?

The main brief was to create a contemporary structure that would combat the over heating issues the clients were having (even with triple glazing) and at the same time create an inviting space on the patio for socialising. Constructed using locally sourced Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar and using the finest stainless steel post shoes made in the UK, this structure is naturally durable without chemical treatment and sustainable through use of local material, grown in the UK.
