Getting in to the flow of the carpentry this week - Building the purlin walls, knee walls for the cantilevered soffit as well as starting preparations for the AVCL, putting the last two pads in for the cranked ridges, taking delivery of the big hip timbers (and all the rafters) and raking out the chimneys for re-pointing..

We also boarded the soffit in Tricoya.

Mickey cutting out for the padstone at the main cranked ridge.

Mark laying down some packing plates for the wall plate that the rafters will land on along the end of terrace wall.

Tarn setting out for the knee walls. We mocked up a couple of rafters over the purlin walls and down to the point they need to land on the soffit joists to give us a line for the knee walls.

Fitting the soffit boards. It was originally lathe and plaster with a smooth flat finish so we opted to keep it that way but to use Tricoya. Tricoya looks remarkably like MDF, and in a way it is MDF, but it is made using Accoya as the starting product which is a trademark timber made from Radiata Pine and pickled in a strong vinegar to make it completely resistant to decay for up to 50 years. It will be painted white eventually.

Final two padstones in...

Nice view of the corner post on the purlin wall ready to accept the double hip rafter and below that the knee walls have been completed..

Felix looking very happy about something... rebuilding the chimney perhaps? Or maybe the upside down mug on the scaffold tower making it into the photo! The main stack is half way through a rebuild on the top 5 courses and the one below just raked out and ready for repointing.

7.2m 10 x 2 hip timbers arrived, sticked and stacked and covered for the next week to keep them as flat as possible until we're ready to cut and fit them.
